High carb, low carb, no carb, good fat, bad fat? Enough already!
I do not think it is possible for a single person to actually say they have NEVER tried a diet plan, at least once in their life. Whether you are trying to lose weight, gain muscle, and my personal favourite “Just tone up a little”, you get it.
Below I have compared three popular diets that I get asked about the most. At the end of the day, you decide the best for you.
Keto’s diet is a very well known diet, and it is super popular right now!
What is it?
Keto’s diet is an extremely low carbohydrate diet which will lead your body to become a “fat-burning” machine. Due to not having enough carbs, your body will switch its fuel supply to run almost entirely on fat. But, this causes insulin levels to become low.
Your macro intake is split up into 10% carbs, 20% protein, and 70% fat.
2. The Atkins Diet
The Atkins Diet is also a low carb diet suggested for weight loss
What is it?
Atkins Diet is split up into a four phase plan. In phase one you will intake no more than 20 grams of carbs per day! That’s crazy! This is very similar to the Keto’s diet with a higher percentage of fats, followed by protein, and then carbs at the lowest.
An example of your macro intake for phase one is: 5% carbs, 35% protein, and 60% fat.
3. Macronutrient Diet
Depending on your goal, you adjust your macronutrient ratio accordingly. The largest difference in this diet compared to Keto and Atkins is that you eat carbs. . . real carbohydrates!
The basic macronutrient maintenance phase includes 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat.
Now, keep in mind that I am in no way a nutritionist. However, having spent the last 30 years either coaching athletes or personal training, it is my personal opinion that balance is everything. “Everything is moderation, including moderation”. I feel having as close to an even, balanced, percentage ratio of carbs, protein and fats, in our daily routine with as much consistency as possible is a lifestyle choice that works time and time again!
